Martín Castro is an internationally active saxophonist whose artistic versatility has led him to perform in over one hundred concerts across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He has appeared in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, Grafenegg, Prince Mahidol Hall (Bangkok), France Musique (Paris), the Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing), and the Fundación Juan March (Madrid). His concert activity has taken him to countries including China, the United States, Austria, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, France, Portugal, Spain, Ukraine, Slovakia, Singapore, Thailand, Greece, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, and Colombia.
He has performed with orchestras such as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Wien), Tonkünstler Orchestra, Webern Symphony Orchestra, Volksoper Vienna, the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Cuba, and the Orquesta del Lyceum de La Habana, collaborating with conductors including Jakub Hruša, Wayne Marshall, Vladimir Kiradijev, and Lars Mlekusch. Highlights include solo performances of works by Jacques Ibert and Cristóbal Halffter.
A committed chamber musician, Castro has won numerous international prizes, including the 88 Concurso Juventudes Musicales de España, Thailand International Wind Symphony Competition, Impro-Parcours 2, ArtJove Música de Cambra, and the Opus 2019 International Music Competition. As a soloist, he is winner of the Osaka International Music Competition, the Leonard Bernstein Institute Competition and the Danubia Talents Liszt International Competition, and has received grants from the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung and the Anny Felbermayer Fonds.
He has given masterclasses at institutions such as the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Vienna Master Classes, and the Conservatorio de Música Luis Gianneo (Argentina), and has served as a juror at the Hunan Wind Instrument Competition (China), the Concurso Latinoamericano de Cuartetos de Saxofones (Colombia), and ArtJove.
Dedicated to contemporary music, he has worked with composers including Wolfgang Rihm, Gabriel Erkoreka, Ramón Lazkano, Félix Ibarrondo, and Javier Girotto. He currently teaches at CSM Galicia, the Escola de Música de Rianxo, and is former faculty at Musikum Hof in Salzburg.
